Google is telling us that some of you are struggling with changing your horse in Red Dead Redemption 2. We’ll help you out. There’s no need to nag.
If you want to ditch your starter horse in Red Dead Redemption 2,
there are a few ways of doing it. My personal favourite is to ride it
off a cliff or set it on fire. (These steps are completely optional, you
don’t actually have to kill your horse to change it).
Changing your horse is actually as simple as removing your saddle.
Stand next to your mare and lock on. Choose the option to remove your
saddle, then walk up to your new horse, lock on, and place the new
saddle on that.
This is handy for a quick fix if your horse dies on your travels –
just shoot a rider from their horse, calm it, then move your saddle
over. This will mark the new stallion as your main horse, as well as
transferring all your equipment over.
It’s also handy for when you find a wild horse that’s actually miles
faster than yours. To see a horse’s stats, lock onto it and hold R1 to
‘study’.

There is another way to change your horse as well. Simply buy a new
one from a stable and it becomes your main horse, saddle and all.
You can buy and sell horses in almost any town in Red Dead Redemption 2, as well as finding some wild beauties on your travels.
In amongst all the regular brown and beige horses you can find, there’s a special, white-maned Arabian horse you can find that is arguably one of the best horses in the game. It’s the fastest wild horse that you can get too, so a good one for a thrifty cowboy.
The white-maned Arabian is hidden away in the Northwest of the map
and because there’s a lot of snow on the ground, it can be easy to miss.
You can go and find this horse as soon as you’re able to free roam
around the map and it’s worth doing early on.
So, here’s where to find this elusive white horse.
Red Dead Redemption 2 where to find the white Arabian horse
Start by heading up to Lake Isabella . As the horse
is a wild animal it will run around the lake, so just bear that in mind.
Also, keep your eye out for wolves and the like, because the last thing
you need here is to die.
This horse is quite difficult to tame, so you may need to follow it
for a while to try and calm it down enough for you to approach it.
Once you find the horse, hold down LT/L2 and
approach the horse very slowly. There is a bar in the bottom right
corner you need to watch. If the bar begins to deplete, quickly tap
X/square to calm the horse down.
If the horse begins to get agitated you’ll need to slow down or
simply stop moving to let it calm down again before you can continue.
Once you’re close enough you’ll be able to pat your new friend and then
mount it.
It’s also worthwhile studying the horse once you’re close enough and the horse is calm enough.
Once you’ve mounted the horse, you’ll need to try and break it in.
Hold in the Left analogue stick and move it in the opposite direction of
the horse’s movement to stay balanced. So if the horse moves forward,
hold back, if it moves left, hold right, etc.
You’ll get a notification once you’ve successfully broken it in and
now you can take it over to your previous horse to put your saddle on
it. The horse is now yours forever. You should continue to bond with it
to improve its obedience and performance.

This white Arabian has a health and stamina rating of five, and speed and acceleration ratings of six. It also has Elite handling.
Best wild horse
The Arabian breed seems to be the best of all horses in Red Dead
Redemption and there are two others you can buy, one of which is black
and the other rose, through story progression. They have slightly better
health and stamina compared to the white horse, but it’s the only one
you can find in the wild.

Arthur Morgan, Dutch, and Co aren’t really the settler type though,
so it’s lucky that an equine friend is just as useful for outrunning the

How to brush your horse in Red Dead Redemption 2
There are a few reasons to keep your horse’s mane and tail brushed in Red Dead Redemption 2.
First, brushing your horse isn’t just for show, doing so regularly will increase your bond with your horse,
giving you access to special skills like rearing, skid turns and stops,
and drifting. Because it doesn’t cost anything, brushing is one of the
quickest low-touch ways to bond with your noble steed.
Second, when your horse is dirty it damages its stamina core, meaning
it’ll get tired more quickly. You’ll know this is happening because a red brush indicator will start to flash inside the horse’s stamina wheel.
Lastly, the horses in RDR2 are super cute and look amazing – so
brushing them is a great way to get up-close-and-personal to enjoy the
animation of how they breathe and idle.
You can brush your horse both on horseback and on the ground. On horseback:
Hold the left shoulder button (L1 on PS4) to open the weapon wheel.
Then press the right shoulder button (R1 on PS4) twice to get to the horse menu.
Hold the right stick over to the right to highlight your brush, then release the left shoulder button to use the item.
On the ground:
Move close to your horse and target it with the left trigger.(L2 on PS4)
Press left on the d-pad and you’ll brush your horse.
Keep pressing left to keep on brushing your horse continuously.

Hosea’s quest “Exit Pursued by a Bruised Ego” at the Horseshoe Overlook
Camp in Chapter 2.
